The dashboard is very easy to navigate so you won’t have any issues setting up Mobicip. The activity page will give you an overview of your child’s internet use and you can click on each window to get more detailed information. There’s also a message tab where you’ll get regular alerts such as access requests and a notification for when Mobicip is removed from a device.
In the family page you can extensively configure parental control settings. This includes some unique features like having Mobicip deactivate when a child uses a certain IP address – ideal for when connecting to an already protected network (like school internet). Of course, parents are far too busy to be constantly checking the dashboard, and thankfully Mobicip gives you the option of activating email reports on your child’s online activities.
It’s very impressive how quickly the Mobicip dashboard updates, so you’ll be able to see the latest websites visited, videos watched, and search history almost immediately. We also like that you can easily access the ‘family time’ button, which blocks all devices for a set amount of time. One small issue we did find was with the search history – while it picked up our searches with Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo it didn’t register any searches we made using Startpage.
Mobicip doesn’t give you the ability to monitor social media interactions like other parental control solutions do. However, there are still ways of limiting children’s social media activity. With Mobicip you can block social media apps on mobile devices or block social media websites for desktop users. Blocking apps is done from the dashboard where you’re given a list of all the major social media apps, allowing you to easily block the likes of Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, and WhatsApp.
Mobicip offers support for a wide range of devices including macOS, Windows, Android, iOS, Kindle, and Chromebook. We tested out Mobicip on macOS and although the monitoring worked great, we encountered issues with uninstalling the software. Uninstalling requires your Mobicip credentials to be entered – a useful feature – but simply dropping the app in the trash afterwards doesn’t completely remove Mobicip. We found the software was still actively running in the menu even after uninstalling it and restarting the computer. The only solution was to download a special uninstaller program from the Mobicip forums.
Setting Mobicip on mobile is an easy process, with the ability to scan a QR code to log in. Mobicip is able to monitor online activity on mobile devices by using its own VPN to track traffic. Despite using this VPN, we didn’t notice any significant slowdown in our internet activity. As well as blocking and unblocking apps, parents will get alerts whenever a child installs a new app. Mobicip also tracks the device’s GPS so parents will be able to see the location of their child from the dashboard. Unlike many other parental control solutions, Mobicip doesn’t have any issues working on iOS devices, and the full range of monitoring features are all there.
When compared to other parental control software, Mobicip offers low prices. Subscriptions are billed annually and vary depending on how many devices you wish to monitor. Prices for Mobicip begin at just $49.99 a year (the equivalent of paying just $4.17 per month) for the Small subscription – which covers up to five devices. For larger families with more devices there’s the Medium and Large subscriptions which cover up to ten or 15 devices respectively. It is worth checking the Mobicip website frequently as there are online offers that can see you reduce the cost of your subscription even further.
All purchases of Mobicip come with a free 7-day trial, although for security reasons you will need to input your card details as you register. However, Mobicip won’t charge you until the seven days have expired, so if you aren’t happy you can cancel at any time via email. Payments can be made with any of the major credit cards and all purchases come with a risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee.
Mobicip offers support through email either directly or via the online contact form and response times are generally fast. Users can also get in touch through Mobicip’s Facebook and Twitter profiles. Alternatively, it’s possible to get support via Mobicip’s online forum – a great place to read other parents’ experiences of using the software.
The Mobicip help desk is where you’ll find guides on all aspects of the service, including an extensive FAQ section. The guides are very clearly written, with plenty of screenshots to help you follow instructions, and some include helpful videos. For even more videos it’s worth checking out Mobicip’s YouTube channel, which includes further tutorials and videos about parenting. Mobicip also has its own blog, which is regularly updated with all the latest news concerning parenting in the digital age.
In a competitive market, Mobicip stands out for its wide range of features and ease of use. The service especially shines when it comes to monitoring mobile devices, with the ability to block apps and an extra emphasis on social media and video apps. We like being able to have the service turn itself off when the device is connected to a specific IP address – ideal for allowing kids to connect to the internet at school. The GPS tracking is also a useful feature for any parent concerned about their child’s whereabouts. One minor issue we had is the limited methods of communication with Mobicip’s customer support team – we’d love the addition of a live chat for easier interaction. However, Mobicip does offer some helpful setup guides and the online forums are valuable source of information. When you include everything that Mobicip has to offer combined with its competitive pricing, you get a superb option for parents who want to make sure their children stay safe online.
